Signature House Enjoy a Visit from Sharandys Birds of Prey

On Monday this week, our beloved community at Signature House had a sensational time, when they were treated to a very special visit. The incredible team from Sharandys Birds of Prey, based at Vurlands Animal Farm in Southern Dorset, arrived at the entrance of our stunning home with some unique guests – majestic birds of prey! Nothing short of magical, this visit was a brilliant experience that brought joy, fascination, and a real sense of curiosity to our cosy home in Dorchester.

From the moment the visit was confirmed, excitement was in the air. Residents, staff, and families gathered with anticipation, and when the Sharandys team arrived, accompanied by their noble feathered companions, it is safe to say we were all in awe. Welcomed with open arms, the breathtaking birds were calm, comfortable and certainly quite interested in their surroundings. After a warm welcome, everyone patiently waited for their turn to offer a gloved hand for one to perch on.

There was an abundance of smiles, laughter, and plenty of wide-eyed wonder as we got up close with these magnificent creatures. For many of us, it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and one we were very lucky to experience, as it is very rare that you witness birds of prey in the wild. Sparking curiosity, conversation, and a renewed connection to the natural world, this visit was not just about seeing the birds; it was about sharing something truly special with one another.

Sharandys Birds of Prey offer an extensive range of experience days, courses, talks and public displays, as well as specialising in visits to schools and care homes. Sharon and Matt, who run the operation, have been rescuing wild birds of prey for over 20 years as part of their Raptor Rescue initiative, managing to rehabilitate many birds back to the wild. It is truly an impressive and heartwarming project, and one that we at Signature House were very grateful to support and experience.

We’re proud to continue offering inclusive, enriching experiences like this, and we’re so grateful to Sharandys Birds of Prey for helping us create such a memorable day. We would like to give a huge thank you to our superb visitors and to their unique feathered companions who provided us with such a memorable afternoon.
