A Stunning VE Day Show at The Orchards
At The Orchards, our beautiful home in Crewkerne, we honoured this historic occasion with a celebration that truly captured the spirit of unity and remembrance. A day filled with music, reflection, togetherness and some delicious cakes served as the perfect way to commemorate such a special moment in our calendar.
The show started with a moment of contemplation, as we all listened to Winston Churchill’s historic speech, a powerful reminder of resilience and triumph. His words, spoken decades ago, still resonate deeply and remind us of the sacrifices that shaped history.
Shortly after, the lovely Linda and Wendy graced us with their incredible singing – an X Factor worthy performance that captivated everyone involved. Their heartfelt melodies set the stage for a fantastic afternoon, filled with an array of music and songs. Following their serenade, the talented Cecilia sang heartwarming hymns, providing a soothing yet invigorating experience for all involved.
The sense of reflection continued, with an inspirational poem dedicated to the Land Girls, celebrating their achievements and hard work during such a challenging period of our past. Their story reminds us of the strength found in community and perseverance, two things that are equally relevant to this day throughout each of our lives. Next, the grand finale came with the sensational Orchards Sinatras, who wrapped up the show in spectacular fashion, living up to their name and leaving smiles on every face!
In the aftermath of the performances, scrumptious cakes were on the menu, with extremely impressive icing work! Tasty and loved by all, the cakes and refreshments provided an irresistible treat, bringing further enjoyment to the already palpable gathering. Thoughtful VE Day decorations (including a remarkable handmade poster by our lovely Sue) transformed our stunning home in Crewkerne with vibrancy and nostalgia, as well as a stunning display of 600 handmade poppies. Truly a breathtaking sight to see!
A number of brilliant costumes perfectly radiated the spirit of the occasion, and to further complement, the setup of seating and tables was attentively arranged outside. This gently encouraged everyone to relax and soak in the fantastic atmosphere. With fresh air, exciting entertainment, warm company, delicious cakes and a triumphant celebration, it truly was a day to cherish.
As well as remembering our history, VE Day is about honouring the values of unity, support and care that continue to shape the world and our beautiful community. These values are at the heart of everything we do and parallel to the other homes in our loving family, this celebration at The Orchards serves as a reflection of the passion and joy we share with one another all year round. We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone involved with our VE Day celebration, we already can’t wait for the next one!
