Swinging 60s Soiree at Signature House
Recently, our loving family at Signature House enjoyed a sensational afternoon when they were treated to a Swinging 60s theatre performance! Everyone, without a doubt, had a fantastic time at the vibrant event, done in collaboration with The Green Room, a Performance Art Pop-Up Theatre company based in Bournemouth.
An afternoon full of creative expression and freedom amounted to a brilliant experience for all, as everyone enjoyed an excellent theatrical performance, filled with movement, joy, laughter and singing. The Green Room specialise in Dementia-friendly care home theatre performances, a heartwarming initiative, and one that our community at Signature House were very grateful to be a part of. Dressed in eye-catching outfits, the dazzling performers provided our beloved residents and some members of our community with an unforgettable afternoon in the heart of Dorchester.
After a warm welcome, a buzz of anticipation filled the room, as everyone eagerly awaited the start of the performance. To our collective delight, glittery tinsel pom-poms were handed out, adding a sparkle-inspired charm to the afternoon, as well as being utilised as a wig in one particular case! The lovely ladies from The Green Room brought bundles of energy, perfectly embodying the cultural revolution, youthful expression and creative explosion that came with the transformative period that was the Swinging 60s. Performing in front of a radiant backdrop, which displayed the word, ‘Groovy’, (a fitting way to describe the afternoon), they took to the stage, ensuring everyone got involved and relished the fabulous atmosphere, singing a variety of songs, while gently encouraging movement and engagement every step of the way.
It can be said with confidence that we all had a splendid afternoon, and the Swinging 60s performance was a beautiful reflection of our active, passionate community. It is worth mentioning the enthusiasm and joy shown by the pair of performers was inspiring, and we were fortunate to enjoy such friendly company. We would like to give a huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone at The Green Room, the two phenomenal performers we were so lucky to welcome, and to everyone who attended, and made this afternoon so special.
The significance of interactive events like these are huge, and the benefits they bring to our beloved community are everlasting. Theatrical performances, in particular, bring endless amounts of connection, stimulation and social interaction for our loving group. As well as being a nostalgic throwback for some members of our family, the Swinging 60s event brought with it a sense of reminiscence, cognitive engagement and physical movement, three things that we hold dear to us throughout our Amica Care community.
This magnificent afternoon perfectly embodied our ongoing commitment to enriching the lives of our loving residents through inclusive experiences while also fostering partnerships with local businesses in our home county of Dorset. The performance was glorious to say the least, and we are excited to organise more events like this in the future. Once more, we would like to say a big thank you to everyone involved with our Swinging 60s afternoon – we already can’t wait for what is next on our calendar!
