A Terrific Tuesday in Dorchester with EMA Social Care

Last week at Signature House, we were treated to an exciting visit from some of our friends at EMA Social Care. In contrast to the cloudy weather, the atmosphere was warm and vibrant, as we enjoyed an afternoon full of fun, games, chocolates, refreshments and the friendly faces that make our community so unique. Established in 2014, EMA began as an education provider for young people with special educational needs. Growing significantly over the last decade, they currently operate two day provisions in Dorchester and Gillingham, as well as managing four supported living services.

Offering exceptional, person-centred support and care, EMA empower individuals to lead independent and fulfilling lives. A truly heartwarming initiative, and one that we at Signature House, and Amica Care as a whole, hold dear and embody ourselves through our specialist care services and the supportive, relaxing environments our communities thrive in. It is safe to say that we were ecstatic to see our friends arrive, and it most definitely proved to be a terrific Tuesday, and an afternoon to remember.

We kicked things off with a riveting soundtrack showdown – a brain-teasing music quiz, that despite our collective passion for melodies, proved to put our abilities to the test! Nevertheless, everyone proceeded through the quiz, gaining impressive scores, and next, in anticipation, began to look forward to the musical scrabble extravaganza fast approaching.

The homely atmosphere was palpable, as everyone gathered like a cheerful family, eagerly waiting for the scrabble session to commence. Although there was certainly a healthy portion of competitiveness, this was largely outweighed by the love, laughter and joy felt by everyone as we progressed through the game. Additionally, the Quality Street and Milky Way chocolates added a much appreciated sweet touch to the already fantastic afternoon, in addition to the quenching refreshments that were offered around the table.

Smiles and hugs were in abundance, as the final word was formed, and the game (unfortunately) came to an end. It is undeniable that we could have carried on for much longer, however it was time to gather outside to enjoy a bit of fresh air, and a heartwarming photo with one another. The overwhelming delight on everyone’s faces was truly a sight to behold, and served as a beautiful reminder of the importance of visits like these and intergenerational contact for both our residents, our team, and the wonderful community at EMA Social Care. A remarkably cosy atmosphere was felt throughout the afternoon, as everyone took pleasure in having  thoughtful conversations, and relishing in the glorious company.

Afternoons like this are a testament to the welcoming community we have at Signature House, and Amica Care as a whole. It is touching to see the beaming smiles brought by the visit, as our residents, staff and our charming visitors made the most of some fun (and testing) games, meaningful company, and some delicious treats! From enhancing independence through innovation and strengthening community ties, to raising the standard of social care and enforcing a deep commitment to person-centred care and empowering lives, we would like to commend EMA for their incredible work. As well as sharing similar values and principles, we would like to say how proud we are to have a great relationship with EMA, as well as with various other members of the Dorchester community.

It was an outstanding afternoon, overflowing with games, giggles and glee. What more could you ask for on a Tuesday afternoon? We would like to give a huge thank you to EMA Social Care, we are incredibly grateful for your visit, and we can’t wait for the next one!
