A Lively Afternoon of Ballroom & Latin Dance
Residents at Signature House Care Home were recently treated to a wonderful afternoon of music, movement and smiles, thanks to a visit from the Bournemouth University Ballroom & Latin Dance Society.
The performance was organised by Rosie, the society’s Community Outreach Lead, who has a special connection to the home. Rosie previously completed a placement here as a Student Nurse, and it was clear from the moment she arrived that this was a place she felt very fond of returning to.
In preparation for the visit, Rosie and the dancers even rehearsed in a space measured to match the size of the home’s lounge, much smaller than a traditional ballroom! This thoughtful planning meant the performance was perfectly suited to the setting and comfortable for residents to enjoy up close.
Residents gathered to watch a mix of ballroom and Latin routines, delivered with real energy, skill and enthusiasm. There was plenty of toe-tapping, smiling and reminiscing as the music played. Just as special were the conversations that followed, with the students taking time to sit and chat with residents about university life, competitions and their love of dance.
Michelle Beverley, Senior Activities Coordinator at Signature House, shared:
“The dancers brought such joy and energy into the home, you could see residents light up the moment the music began. What made the afternoon even more special was the time they spent chatting with everyone afterwards. We’re so grateful to Rosie for organising the visit and to the whole society for the care and enthusiasm they showed. We can’t wait to welcome them back.”
Rosie added:
“It was so lovely to return to Signature House, where I trained as a student nurse, and to bring the Ballroom & Latin Dance Society with me. The residents were so warm and welcoming, and seeing them enjoy the music and movement meant the world to us. We always aim to use dance to bring people together, and this visit truly reminded us why community outreach is so important.”
The afternoon was a great reminder of how meaningful community connections can be, and how a little music and movement can bring people of all ages together. We’re already looking forward to welcoming the dancers back again soon.
